Prescribed Drug Pushing BBC investigation

BBC Radio 4 File on 4 investigation into the marketing of an antipsychotic drug can be heard now.
This drug is at the centre of litigation in the USA. Hear the programme now at this link http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00q3gjj

A drug that in the UK has sales for 'off licence' usage that amount to 70% of all sales according to the File on 4 investigation. That means the drug which is licensed for those suffering psychotic illness, is being given to people who are not psychotic for any number of reasons, including sleep problems, ADHD, anxiety and other indications not approved officially but allowed at the discretion of a doctor.

The question as to how so much 'off license' usage occurs is one that has to be guessed at.

The drug reps are not meant to promote a drug for other than the use it was licensed for. Internal documentation was seen to mention the possibility of promotion for dementia.
