I SUBMITTED TWO RESPONSES TO BMJ mentioning Benzo & SSRI chronic iatrogenesis. The failure of BMJ to print either is disappointing - I am not sure why, as Richard Smith when editor of BMJ led a campaign against harm from medicines.
MY RESPONSE.....can someone tell me why this is not a suitable response to Richard's Blog comments?
...................
There is no NHS initiative to help the thousands of people who suffer from chronic illness due to benzodiazepine addiction or dependence on SSRI antidepressants.
The recent Health Select Committee Inquiry into Medicines Addiction, heard evidence from Professor Heather Ashton and people involved in helping involuntary addicts.
The chronically ill include those who have suffered stokes, seizures, memory impairment or onset of psychosis or depression triggered by adverse effects of medicines or anaesthetics.
Due to the lack of Pharmacology and Therapeutics on the syllabus, many medical schools fail to address the problem of iatrogenesis which is causing chronic physical and psychological illness.
